Chinese New Year 2027: The Jewelry Production Cutoff Brands Keep Missing

There are 116 days between today and Chinese New Year 2027, and none of them are spare. On February 6, 2027, jewelry workshops across China close for the Spring Festival, and most do not run at full capacity again until the Lantern Festival on February 20. Count backwards from there and subtract the weeks that quietly disappear before the holiday, and the real cutoff for a Spring/Summer 2027 collection is not a winter date at all — it falls in mid-November. If you are sourcing for the first half of 2027, the Chinese New Year jewelry production calendar belongs at the top of your brief, above the mood board.

Most of the brands we work with at Buty4u plan forwards from a launch date. The ones who ship on time plan backwards from the Spring Festival.

Chinese New Year Is a Production Deadline, Not a Holiday

Buyers in the US and Europe tend to file Chinese New Year under "festival" and move on. Buyers who source from China file it under "hard stop". The statutory Spring Festival holiday typically falls in early February, and the effective shutdown is wider than the holiday itself: production winds down through the second half of January as workers travel home, and capacity rebuilds gradually after the Lantern Festival on February 20.

That is roughly six weeks of lost capacity, landing at the exact moment Western brands start ordering for spring. The deadline is not arbitrary. It is arithmetic.

The Dates That Matter

Milestone Target date Why it matters
Design brief and first samples By the end of October 2026 Each sampling round typically needs one to two weeks plus shipping. Two rounds that start in December will not finish before the break.
Purchase order confirmed By mid-November 2026 This is what secures your place in the production queue. After that you are competing for whatever capacity is left.
Goods leave the workshop By mid-January 2027 The last realistic production and dispatch window before the shutdown.
Spring Festival February 6, 2027 Workshops close as the holiday begins — the start of the Year of the Goat.
Capacity rebuilt Around February 20, 2027 Orders placed during the break start at the back of a six-week queue.

One note on the table: "goods leave the workshop" is not "goods arrive". Add transit time on top, and more of it if your volume travels by sea. The queue is also first-come, first-served — it does not care how long we have been talking. We have deliberately left the statutory holiday dates for 2027 out of this table: China's State Council publishes the annual holiday arrangement, usually in November, and the plant-level shutdown runs wider than the official dates in any case.

Why Six Weeks of Lost Capacity Costs More Than Six Weeks

Jewelry is made across benches, not on a single line. A 925 sterling silver pendant is cast, then filed and pre-polished, then set — a setter seats the stone and works the bezel over it by hand, which is the step that decides whether a warm cabochon reads as glowing or dull — then polished again, then plated. Plating is the quiet step: pieces go into the bath in batches, and a batch that misses its slot waits for the next one.

In January the baths fill early. Work that takes three weeks in June can take five in January — not because anyone is working more slowly, but because every order in the country is competing for the same benches. No amount of urgency in the third week of January recovers that. Which is why we would rather give a buyer an honest "no" in October than an optimistic "yes" that turns into an apology later.

Three Decisions to Make Before December

  • Lock the metal and the finish now, not after the deposit. Silver or brass, and which plating tone, is a scheduling decision as much as a design one — changing the finish after the order is placed puts you back in the queue. If you are still weighing materials, our comparison of 925 silver and brass for B2B buyers covers the cost and durability trade-off.
  • Split the order. Flying a small first drop while the bulk travels by sea is a normal way to hold a launch date. It costs more per piece; it does not cost you the season.
  • Decide what can genuinely wait until March. A well-built spring range usually ships in two waves. Put the pieces with the longest finishing time in the first wave — not the ones you are most excited about.

If the Window Has Already Closed

Missed windows are recoverable, but only if they are named early. Three honest options: a partial first shipment built from components already in stock, a smaller opening range while the hero pieces finish, or moving the launch to late February and using pre-orders to hold attention in the meantime. What does not work is discovering the problem two weeks before the ship date.

The 60-Second Version

  • Chinese New Year 2027: February 6; capacity rebuilds around February 20.
  • If sampling has not started, sampling is now the bottleneck — not casting.
  • Purchase orders: mid-November 2026 for a spring delivery.
  • Last realistic ship window: mid-January 2027.
  • Batch work always slows in January. Plan for it instead of hoping around it.
